In 1976, she was a global celebrity when she scored the only ever perfect 10 on an asymmetrical bar during the Montreal Olympic Games. Additionally, she scored six more 10s perfect which made her fourteen years old the youngest Olympic medalist in all categories. The Romanian gymnast did not only draw attention from all directions however, she also assisted in helping Romania get its place in the world map. By achieving a score that was unattainable the sport's icon helped bring gymnastics to the forefront of global attention. Additionally, it altered perception of women athletes by the public.
