Nadia Elena Comaneci
In 1976, she was a global celebrity when she scored the only ever perfect 10 on an asymmetrical bar during the Montreal Olympic Games. Additionally, she scored six more 10s perfect which made her fourteen years old the youngest Olympic medalist in all categories. The Romanian gymnast did not only draw attention from all directions however, she also assisted in helping Romania get its place in the world map. By achieving a score that was unattainable the sport's icon helped bring gymnastics to the forefront of global attention. Additionally, it altered perception of women athletes by the public. Such was her impact on this Olympics that even the uneven bar competition has two moves named after her - toe-on and release, both of which have been considered to be at an extremely difficult level. In addition to the Olympics she was also the hottest athlete in the World Championships and European Championships. Her performance have made her one of the best gymnasts ever. The US she was able to advertise sports products and model following her departure from her home country.
